So I signed up for this prompt table back in January, thinking it wouldn't take that long to do. I tell me past self: HA.

Edit: It doesn't even meet the word count *headdesk*

Falling Asleep in His Arms

It’s hard to break a lifetime habit of distrust, and Spike had several lifetimes under his belt. Every single time he’d trusted someone, without fail, they’d betrayed him in some way. So it was no wonder he looked at the world with skepticism.

But despite that cloak of cynicism and doubt, he found himself falling asleep in Xander’s arms time and time again. He woke up slowly, feeling safe.

He didn’t trust him, that brown-eyed boy with his clumsy charm. But maybe, with time, he could learn to.

It really does, especially when people have been hurt in the past. And Spike has more experience with people leaving him than most.
